The Purpose of Government
Libertarians believe that private individuals are better stewards of their money than the government. We believe that the government should be limited to its most vital functions and taxes should be reflect in that limited scale and scope. We support a dramatic reduction in taxes and the size of government.
Libertarians believe all gun laws are a constitutional infringement. The right to defend oneself against tyranny is an inalienable human right. Gun laws were first created to oppress minority groups and now are used to remove the people’s mechanism of defense against those that would infringe on their life, liberty, or property.
Libertarians believe that all infrastructure funding should be done through open bids and competitive results and oppose secret negotiations that leads to cronyism. We support user fees and not the use of unappropriated taxes to fund infrastructure.
Libertarians firmly oppose all medical mandates and believe that individuals own their bodies and have full body autonomy. Every adult has the right to make all decisions about their healthcare free from government intervention, including all decisions about their insurance, medical provider, and treatment or care. To give the government the power to impose restrictions on medical decisions of individuals also gives the government the power to mandate any medical decisions.
Libertarians believe that the federal government has no role in education. We believe all decisions of education including discipline, curriculum, funding, and budget should be done at the most local level. We fully support parents right to school choice for their children including homeschool, online education, and private schools.
Libertarians believe government must protect the rights of individuals to life, liberty, and property; moreover, the governments must never be permitted to infringe on these rights except through due process of law. We oppose qualified immunity for all public servants as is an abuse of the authority they are given. All public servants must to be held to the highest standard.
We further believe that, without unnecessary enforcement of laws that criminalize a victim-less act, many tragic incidents involving police officers and other government officials could be avoided. For this reason, we must end the practice of arresting and prosecuting those whose actions create no victim.
Libertarians believe that abortion is not a federal issue. We oppose government mandates in the medical decisions of individuals and believe there are many ways to reduce abortion without full government prohibition, which would only lead to an unsafe criminal market. Libertarians support such efforts as reduced impediments to adoption, making birth control entirely over the counter, and increasing the availability of sex education.
Libertarians fully support market solutions for the economy. We fully support small businesses and entrepreneurism and oppose government restrictions of economic freedom including occupational licenses. Above all, we oppose cronyism, corruption, and fraud. The government goes outside its proper authority when dictating winners and losers in the economy.
Libertarians fully oppose the failed “War on Drugs” and further believe that cannabis prohibition has done considerable harm to the economy, overburdened the criminal justice system, and destroyed lives and families far more than cannabis itself. We call for full legalization of cannabis to support independent famers in a competitive market, new hemp-based industry, medical patients, and the rights of all free individuals to choose what they consume.
Libertarians believe all people are born with inherent rights. We believe the government must defend the rights of every person, regardless of their race, ethnicity, or any other aspect of their identity. Government should never deny nor abridge any individual’s inalienable human rights based upon gender, wealth, ethnicity, creed, age, national origin, personal habits, political preference, or sexual orientation.
Libertarians fully support property rights, and we believe no one has the right to harm or steal from you especially the government. We oppose eminent domain abuse, civil asset forfeiture, governmental limits on profits, governmental production mandates, and governmental controls on prices of goods and services including wages, rents, and interest. Your freedom to contract to obtain, retain, profit from, manage, defend, address damage done to, or dispose of one’s property is the essential purpose of our judicial system.
Libertarians believe that issues concerning the environment are directly tied to property rights. No one, especially the government, has the right to harm, pollute, damage, or steal from you. Nor does anyone have the right to poison your air, water, food, land, or body. We further support deregulation of energy and believe that all property owners can make the best decisions for their energy production and usage.
